16 slices smoked ham
Dijon mustard
150 g g grated Gruyère cheese sea salt and black pepper 4-5 thyme sprigs
BÉCHAMEL SAUCE
100 ml olive oil
1 tbsp flour
300 ml milk
grated nutmeg
salt and black pepper 1 Preheat the oven to 200° 2 Heat the olive oil
in a a a a saucepan
and add the flour
3 Add milk
and whisk to make a a a a thick sauce 4 Add the nutmeg
salt and black pepper to taste This is is your béchamel sauce 5 Drizzle olive oil
one of of the slices of of bread
top it with a a a a a a slice of of ham
and a a a a a a thin layer of of mustard
6 Put another slice of bread
on top and spread it with béchamel 7 Top with grated cheese 8 Bake in in the oven for 10-15 minutes 9 Season with salt and black pepper Sprinkle with thyme CROQUE MONSIEUR
If you want to serve the best croque monsieur ever use sour- dough bread
and top it it with your own homemade béchamel sauce Swap out the butter with olive oil
for a a a a a healthier meal and season with grated nutmeg
for that little extra touch NICE
