26. BRICK TYPE INKWELL. 6.3ins high, base 4.2 x 8ins. Crudely made red earthenware hollow based brick shape with a clear shiny outer glaze. Various sprigs
and added decorative upper
 sections (some pieces missing) with two barrel shaped inks to left and right, with tall head shape carrying two quill/ pen holders.
A great piece of country style pottery. 7/10. NR £60-80+
 27. TEBAY (CUMBRIA) DATED BRICK TYPE INKWELL. 5ins high, base 3.2 x 8.4ins. Another crude hollow based brick shape
with an off white body and clear shiny outer glaze - areas highlighted with cobalt patches, almost sponge like? Front
 left and right of a central dog feature. Another great country style pottery item. 7/10. NR £60-80+
 28. BRICK TYPE INKWELL. 4.8ins tall, base 3 x 7.3ins. Another crude hollow based brick shape with off white
body quite similar to previous lot - this
example minus the dated front panel -
 replaced with a deep blue highlighted floral sprig panel but this with two spotty decorated stoppers? Maybe some repairs? NR. 8/10. £60-80+
   29. DESK SHAPED TYZACK LONDON
James Tyzack (1798-1860), had the ‘special command and authority of H.M.G Majesty the Queen’ and other members of Royalty and the aristocracy, listed in Pigot’s directory of 1830 as a silversmith, perfumer and hairdresser
INKWELL. 3.4 x 3ins base. Variating salt glaze - graduating
to lighter towards the right side.
The Tyzack company is an amalgamation of various family members centred on James products. The family based in East Anglia at Norwich and Wells on the North Norfolk coast. James’ brother Richard Webber Tyzack (1817-95), who emigrated to South Africa in 1850, was his agent in London and may well have commissioned a Thames-side pottery there to make these wells (Stephen Green?); he was married at Spittlefields Church of Christ in Stepney where he was described as a ‘general postman’ at the time. Another brother William was a perfumer and hairdresser in Norwich.
