 167. DATED SCOTTISH SALT POT. 11.6ins tall. Mid brown early - classic 1840s salt glaze kitchen salt pot lavishly aroned with very high quality sprigs with acorn and leaf top finial, front with fist width opening
to access the contents. Sprigs cover foliage (some with berries - vines presumably - magnificent
detailing?), figures in smoking and drinking repose, lower area carries upward
rising leave sprigs. Most significant are the two main sprigs - that on the front at the bottom a really
superb large coat of arms and impressed below George
Shaw/ Joiner/1846. On the shoulders at the back is a
huge wide winged eagle. A few old damages to rim opening and one to base
- overally very good. A
significant and important offering. 8.5/10. NR.
