Pro shop successes during COVID-19
The offseason: the moment we shut the doors, turn off our phones and vacation for the next few months ... oh wait, that’s just what people think we do! The offseason is very valuable to golf course owners and operators, as it’s the time that we strategize, budget and become more inventive.
This offseason, we spent hours rescheduling, adding new events, new programs and it all came to a crashing halt in March. All the time owners and operators had put into their planning had literally been flipped upside down. It reminded me of the lyrics from the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song that I altered slightly for the golf industry:
“Now this is a story all about how
My life got flipped - turned upside down
And I’d like to take a minute, so you can hear
How we became the number one sport far and near”
What has always amazed me about the golf industry is that we have been consistently willing to adapt. It is no surprise that COVID has changed the way we run our golf courses and this article explores what was successful in pro shops across Canada during the pandemic.
