ROUNDS pLAYED & WEAthER REpORtING
From a national perspective, the Canadian golf industry has seen significant growth in 2015 year to date Rounds Played numbers compared to last year (up 10.62%) and compared to the 3 year average (up 5.67%). All provinces are showing an increase in Rounds Played, with the exception of Atlantic Canada which was hit with very unseasonable spring weather.
Western Canada seems to be the biggest benefactor to both an early start and some enjoyable early season weather conditions. British Columbia is showing an increase of 8.16% over last year in Rounds Played, and an increase of 4.63% over the past 3 year average. Rounds Played in Alberta are also very strong this year with a 15.22% increase over last year and 9.59% over the past 3 year average.
The temperatures for most regions across the country have been favourable the entire golf season and operators are ‘scoring’ the weather above normal each month. With ‘5’ being an average score with respect to how weather affected their business; very few operators have reported a number below ‘5’ all season.
A big thank you to the ever growing number of golf facilities who are providing their monthly Rounds Played data and Weather Scores for this initiative. None of this credible research would be possible without operators taking 2-3 minutes out of your busy schedules every month to input your information.
Increased rounds means increased business in our industry. Golf needs more good news stories like this in North America. We hope that your facility is following these trends both nationally and regionally. The Rounds Played and Weather Reports are intended to provide operators with a benchmark to compare their business with. Some facilities could use this information to make adjustments to their business if they observe market share losses or gains. The NGCOA Canada is committed to providing its membership with business support. This research project is just one of these mechanisms.

*due to the timing involved to gather data and generate the monthly reports, combined with the timing for printing this magazine, the August Rounds Played Report was the most current one available. However, you can visit www.ngcoa.ca to view the most up-to-date monthly reports, at your convenience.
