At the virtual 2021 Golf Business Canada Conference & Trade Show, delegates submitted ideas in advance for the Great Canadian Idea Share that showcased their best money-saving and revenue-generating ideas. The top 10 semi-finalists were chosen and they presented their ideas live during the virtual event with delegates voting for their top 4 favourite ideas.
It was a competitive process with many creative and impressive ideas from members across the country. The top 4 finalist ideas will be featured in the Golf Business Canada magazine. Compliments of Tee- On Software, each of the 4 finalists received a gift card from Home Hardware, with the winner walking away with a cool $5,000 gift card!
 Bueno Barbeque Food Truck
Kevin Graf, Serenity Golf Club, AB kevin@serenitygolf.com
In 2021, we added a food truck to the property at Serenity! Not only to increase our food sales, but also to go along with our fun atmosphere at the club and to offer something unique to the golfers. We purchased a fully equipped food truck and came up with the name, logo, and artwork to wrap the truck and the menu. Once that was done, Bueno Barbecue was born!
Bueno Barbecue offered Mexican food with a barbecue inspiration. The food truck was amazing for our leagues, tournaments, day-to-day golfers and to our membership. We asked our members to vote on a weekly special to get them involved and the feedback was great!
Prior to Bueno Barbecue, food was always a negative at Serenity. We are in a temporary clubhouse and offered kiosk items like hot dogs and sandwiches. The food truck created an experience that our golfers not only remembered, but something that they looked forward to when they arrived at the course. This was reflected in our sales this season, with an over 25% Food & Beverage sales increase.
We also noticed people were sticking around after their rounds a lot more than in the past years. Whether they were enjoying our famous Bueno Tacos, or washing them down with a signature margarita, they were sticking around and spending more money which was great to see! The food truck is something we look at more long term even when we add a clubhouse. It offers really fun and unique opportunities for on course as well as a value added for tournaments. We look forward to the future of Bueno Barbecue!
