EVENT WEEK AND REFLECTIONS
I can say with certainty, this event was the most exciting period of my career. Years of planning panned out; last- minute changes were not required; daily maintenance became the focus. I am not sure there will ever come a point when I am happy with everything on the golf course, but there is a time where you must sit back, and let golf happen. So, in listening to Eric and Wayne, why not try to enjoy it at the same time. For me, that was watching my team take enormous pride in the work they were doing.
During the week, industry volunteers and suppliers from around B.C. joined us. Most joined us on the course with our team while our suppliers contributed by hosting breakfasts during the week that added to the atmosphere around the yard for the crew after the morning session.
Jason Steadwell and Miranda Robinson brought together a group of “Women in Turf” to take part in Canada’s largest women’s golf event. With help from Syngenta, these women arrived from far-flung parts of our country. They rented a house, organized golf and educational sessions and were still able to make every volunteer shift that we had available, leaving the week with a tremendous impact. Hopefully, we see this become an annual tradition moving forward with the CPKC Open.
My management team of Morgan Robins, Jeremy Atkins and Shaun Honcoop did an incredible job. My previous Assistants who started the process with me in 2019 and advanced to become Superintendents at other courses were able to come out for the week to help, making the week even more special on a personal level.
Golf Canada continues to elevate the women’s game - winning three awards at the LPGA annual tournament awards session in Naples, Florida, including back-to-back Tournament of the Year Awards. The most impressive achievement, however, was the nearly $7 million that was raised for Heart Health in B.C. through the generous support of CPKC and the Club’s continued commitment to hosting the event over the four-year journey.
The atmosphere created by all who participated is why this industry is one of the very best to be around. Many thanks to all who were involved. GM

on Tuesday of event week at 3”. With the decision to leave Primo out of the final application we were expecting areas outside of the ropes to grow to 5” by Sunday. In addition to the benefits of fighting drought conditions, the Civitas helped the turf make it through the stress of having a 75,000-person gallery during the event week. In the future, we will include this program as part of our regular routine.
