conspicuous and harder to remove. Consider using retract- able bars for areas that require occasional access, ensuring they lock securely when not in use.
• Reinforced Glass: Use laminated glass, which consists of a layer of plastic between two layers of glass, making it resistant to breaking and intrusion. For added protection, apply security film to existing glass to make it more shatter resistant. This film can hold the glass together even if it’s cracked or broken, making it harder for thieves to gain entry.
Enhance Surveillance Systems
• High-Quality CCTV Cameras: Choose cameras with high- definition resolution (1080p or 4K) to ensure clear, detailed footage. Use cameras with wide-angle lenses (e.g., 120 degrees) to cover large areas with fewer units. Opt for models with infrared or low- light capabilities for night-time surveillance. Position cameras at all potential entry points, including doors, windows, and less visible areas like side alleys and backyards.
• Video Alarms: Consider the installation of video alarms (such
as Solink, an NGCOA Canada Golfmax partner), as they use your existing security cameras as an alarm system. Video alarms are the newest layer of security for golf courses. Unlike traditional alarms, which only protect doors and windows, video alarms can protect entire areas – such as your cart storage area. For more information on video alarms, please read “Sound the Alarm” article in Winter 2023 Golf Business Canada magazine.
• Remote Monitoring: Use cloud- based surveillance systems to enable access via smartphones or computers. This ensures real-time monitoring and prompt alerts.
• Regular Maintenance and Testing: Routinely clean camera lenses, test recording equipment, and update software to prevent security vulnerabilities.
Implement Alarm Systems
•Intruder Alarms: Use motion detectors, glass-break sensors and door/window contact alarms to detect unauthorized access.
• Alarm Verification: Use video or audio verification to confirm genuine threats before notifying law enforcement.
Improve Lighting and Visibility
• Exterior Lighting: Install bright, motion-activated LED flood- lights around the clubhouse and cart storage areas. LED lights are energy-efficient and provide high illumination. Position lights to cover all entry points, walkways, and dark corners. Ensure lights are mounted at a height that prevents tampering and avoid areas that create shadows where intruders could hide.
• Interior Lighting: Use program- mable timers or motion sensors to manage indoor lighting. Timers can be set to turn lights on and off at specific times, creating the appearance that the clubhouse is occupied. Motion sensors can activate lights in response to movement, illuminating key areas and deterring potential intruders.
Secure Storage for Power Carts
• Locked Enclosures or Garages: Store power carts in locked, dedicated garages with reinforced construction and sturdy locks.
•Fencing with Barriers: Install high-quality fencing around cart storage areas, using materials like chain-link with additional deterrents such as barbed wire or spikes. Use physical barriers like bollards or concrete blocks to prevent ramming or forced entry into the storage area.
•Anti-TheftDevices:Equippower carts with anti-theft devices such as steering locks, wheel locks, or immobilizers that make it difficult to move or operate the carts. Install GPS tracking systems on carts for real-time location tracking and easy recovery in case of theft.
