Perhaps most impressive about Port
Royal’s operation is what Jackson
has accomplished with limited human
resources. Despite managing a
world-class facility with only 11 staff
members, the course consistently
delivers exceptional conditions. The
secret lies in building a
knowledgeable, experienced team
with clear goals and expectations.
Jackson takes pride in creating
an environment that retains talent.
The crew includes one member who
recently retired after 42 years of
service, testament to the job
satisfaction and career development
opportunities available. Oscar Riley,
who began his career at age 11 picking
up golf balls at the course and now
serves as supervisory foreman,
embodies the program’s success in
developing homegrown talent.
“The satisfaction and gratification
that you get from seeing your work is
instantaneous,” Riley shared,
explaining what he enjoys most
about his career in turf management.

Hong Kong Golf Club, and Mid Ocean
Club in Bermuda before settling into
his current role. This diverse
