2022 Winning Idea
Virtual Advent Calendar
Jenna White, The Redwoods, BC marketing@redwoods-golf.com
Advent calendars have been surging in popularity over the last few years and we decided to hop on that trend. We created a virtual 12-day advent calendar and gave exclusive access to the customers in our email program.
Each day the virtual advent calendar revealed a different offer or giveaway that would only be available on that particular day. On eight of the days, we offered different items or packages for sale, and on the other four days, we offered prize draws that customers could enter to win online.
We sold items such as a Redwoods Starter Kit including a hat, logo ball and range balls; power cart rentals; and wine and beer which ended up being some of our best sellers. In 12 days, we sold almost double what we usually earn during our typical holiday green fee sale. This sale was successful for four major reasons:
1. It created URGENCY.
2. It created ENGAGEMENT.
3. It was an INVENTORY CLEANER. 4. It created REPEAT BUYERS.
So, how did we do this? First, we created all of the items in our online store. Each item was on its own hidden URL which 1-2-1 Marketing (now foreUP) helped us with. We then created four simple Google Forms where people could enter to win the four draw prizes. We created a virtual advent calendar, using My Advent (https://www.myadvent.net/en/) which is free and easy to use. In the advent calendar we added links directing people to the hidden URLs in our online store, as well as the four Google Forms. Finally, we created and scheduled a few short customer emails about the advent calendar. Once the advent calendar is live, it is totally hands off.
This promotion was Christmas-themed, but an advent calendar does not have to be strictly used for the holidays. It is a great way for people to get excited about an upcoming event or to increase engagement before a big announcement!
