James Cronk, leader of Cronk Group, manages Tower Ranch Golf and Country Club in Kelowna, B.C. This summer, he had first- hand experience with COVID-19 when a server in their clubhouse restaurant tested positive. His first actions were swift and sure, yet largely unguided in the sense of protocol within the industry.
Golf Business Canada magazine (GBC) interviewed James about his experience, his sense of what should be done, and what helped guide his team through this experience with a positive result.
GBC: Walk us through the moment that you got the call from your staff member that they had tested positive. What was your reaction?
JC: Well, I remember it being a crazy time. Like most NGCOA Canada members, we had an extensive COVID policy in place for the safety of our customers and our staff. That said, we had not fully executed a “what to do if” scenario.
Then, one Thursday, we had an employee arrive for work and tell another employee she wasn’t feeling well. This was just after the July long weekend and Kelowna was in the middle of an outbreak. Protocol required that she go straight home.
