Impressive increases in Rounds Played continues
NGCOA Canada Rounds Played Reports for the month of August showed an increase of 17.6% nationally year-over-year. Most provinces experienced double digit increases over last August with Manitoba leading the charge with an impressive increase of 46.6%, followed by Alberta at 28.8%, 21.4% in Ontario, 16.5% in British Columbia, 12.1% in Saskatchewan and 11.9% in Atlantic Canada. Quebec is showing a slight decrease over last August of 2.7%, however when analyzing the data from the last 5 years, it is apparent that Quebec had an exceptional August 2019. When comparing Quebec’s Rounds Played from August 2020 to the 5-year average, Quebec courses are showing an increase of 11.4%.
The national year-to-date rounds continue to show a strong increase at 11.5% over last year and this, coupled with the impres- sive August 5-year average growth of 23.3%, further reinforces the continued success golf is experiencing in the wake of the glob- al pandemic.
Increases in online and contactless payments, combined with the continued popularity of golf, impacted revenues in a positive way once again in August with National Revenues increasing by 33% over August 2019.
This August growth brings the 2020 year-to-date revenue increase to almost 23% which is an outstanding turnaround after the steep decreases in March and April. All regions continue to demonstrate significant year-over-year growth with the exception of Atlantic Canada where it appears that the inter-provincial and international travel ban continues to have a significant impact on revenues.
NGCOA Canada’s Weather Impact Report shows another month of favourable conditions for golf across the country with operators in all 6 regions scoring weather in August at 7.7 or above. The weather impact report uses a 0-10 scale where 5 is “normal” weather conditions.
