Shipping and Logistics:
E-commerce platforms do not typically have their own shipping service, and have elected to integrate with services that specialize in shipping and logistics. These include providers such as UPS, FedEx, and DHL. This has enabled businesses to choose the best-in-class e-commerce platform with the best-in-class shipping solution that meets their specific
needs. When FedEx and Shopify stick to their core business but partner with other verticals that complement their offer, they are able to better service the customer.
Marketing Automation, Email, and CRM: While many e-commerce solutions have their own built-in marketing automation tools, many also support external integrations as well. To use Shopify as an example, they offer Shopify Email but also integrate with solutions like Mailchimp. Shopify also has their own customer relationship tools (CRM) and marketing automation, but they also offer seamless support with companies like HubSpot, Adobe Marketo, and Salesforce Pardot. Again, this provides more choice and flexibility to their customers (the business owner) to customize the solution that is right for them.
