lemonade to his kegs and told the crowd that he was preventing them from getting too drunk to continue their ride. He would have made a great marketer.
The drink was a hit - and quickly spread far beyond Franz’s single tavern. The drink’s name, however, still nodded to its very first customers: Radler is the German word for cyclist. Radlers remain an incredible way to offer parched athletes a delicious hit of refreshment today - and clever brewers have been experimenting with flavours that go far beyond Franz’s lemonade. At Moosehead, our award-winning Radlers come in Grapefruit, Strawberry Lemonade, Peach Mango, and Raspberry - they’re developed with 15 percent real juice and brewed to 4 percent alcohol by volume.
WSGN also identified “functional thirst quenchers” as a key trend among younger drinkers, reinforcing Radler’s role in the future of your beer cart experience. There’s a reason golf has surged in popularity in a post-pandemic world. It brings together so much of what we have been craving over the last few years: community, celebration, sport, and human connection. Beer plays a role in these moments, too. A study by the beer-advocacy group Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) found that people who patronize a local or community-type pub or bar have a wider support system of close friends, which led them to be more trusting of others and more engaged with the community. I suspect the research would show the same for a local golf course.
CHEERS TO 2023
It is a pleasure to work with our golf course partners across Canada to bring people together over a round of golf and a pint of beer. And, it is exciting to continue to explore new ways to evolve that experience for you and your customers. Cheers to an incredible 2023 season. See you on the links.
