 Events Memorable!
generatemoremoney, helpsponsors connect better with golfers, and keep everyone entertained.
As tournaments have returned post-pandemic, NGCOA Canada members have sought innovative ideas to enhance their events. Here are some traditional and out-of- the-box suggestions to surprise and delight golfers.
TRADITIONAL TOURNAMENT ELEMENTS
There are certain elements that golfers expect to experience at a golf tournament or on league nights. This includes the Long Drive,
Closest to the Pin, Hole in One and Putting contests. Including these ensures familiarity and enjoyment. Additionally, consider:
Straightest Drive: Stretch out rope in the middle of the fairway and award the prize to the ball closest to the rope, regardless of distance.
Beat the Pro Challenge: Have your pro or a club champion challenge golfers on a selected hole, offering tips and creating engagement.
NON-TRADITIONAL IDEAS
Introducing unique competitions and elements can make your golf events stand out and provide memorable experiences for golfers. Here are some creative ideas to consider:
Coloured Ball Competition:
Every foursome receives a coloured golf ball at the start of the tournament. The ball is rotated between golfers on every hole, with each golfer in a foursome will be responsible for the golf ball for four or five holes. The golfer plays the entire hole with the coloured golf ball with the goal of not losing the ball. By the end of the round, all teams that did not lose the golf ball are entered into a team raffle prize.
Alternatively, each team receives a brightly coloured ball (perhaps sponsor branded). The team passes the ball from player to player through the course. On each hole, the golfer that plays that special ball records their score separately on the scorecard. Any team that loses the coloured ball during the round is disqualified. The team that has the lowest overall score (with the special ball) wins a team prize, providing great opportunities for sponsors.
Hire A Long Drive Golfer:
Hire one for the day and have them stationed on a long Par 5 as they can hit the golf ball over 350 yards. To generate revenue, allow teams to use the pro’s drive for a $20 donation. This helps raise funds and adds an element of excitement as golfers compare their drives to the pros.
Call Your Shot Challenge: If you have access to a Trackman, set it up on the tee deck and have each golfer guess an exact yardage. Then they choose their club and attempt to hit the exact distance that they guessed. This can be more entertaining that a long drive competition as it is a fun challenge that all golfers can enjoy.
