What Lies Ahead in 2025?
National Average Rounds Played by Year
There has been much speculation about the sustainability of the sudden participation surge in 2020
& 2021. The moderate decline in 2022 was expected but also created an uncertainty regarding how
far rounds would fall in the subsequent years. The positive results in 2023 and 2024 have indicated
resilience in the industry and serve as a testament to the ability of operators and industry leaders
to convert the popularity surge into a lasting increase in rounds played year after year.
Have we reached a
new rounds played
benchmark?
As mentioned above, the data
shows a positive trend in recent
history. Rounds played have
increased YoY in 4 of the past
5 seasons. It is important to
note that several macro factors
can play a role in total rounds
played as well. Geopolitical
shifts occurring in Canada and
the United States can have
broad economic influence that
would directly affect the golf
industry. Additionally, environ-
mental factors such as sig-
nificant weather events impact
annual rounds totals.
