At the 2024 Golf Business Canada Conference & Trade Show, a record number of delegates submitted ideas in advance for
the Great Canadian Idea Share that showcased their best proven money-saving and
revenue-generating ideas. The top 10 semi-finalists were chosen and they presented
their ideas live during the event with delegates voting for their favourite ideas.
It was a competitive process with many creative and impressive ideas from members
across the country. The top 5 finalist ideas will be featured in the Golf Business Canada
magazine. Compliments of Tee-On Software, each of the 5 finalists received a gift card
from Home Hardware, with the winner walking away with a cool $5,000 gift card!

At The Greens at Renton, we strive to be more than just a golf course—we
are a hub for community engagement and local philanthropy. Recognizing
the challenges faced by charities in raising funds and the underutilization of
courses on weekdays, we launched Community Day in 2023 as an innovative
solution.
On Community Day, we donate 100% of green fees from a traditionally
quiet Tuesday to 27 local charities. This unique event includes hole-in-one
challenges, silent auctions, and fun games, raising significant funds for local
causes, while benefiting from increased cart, food, and beverage sales.
Our 27-hole golf course is divided into three sets of nine holes, each sup-
porting a different charity. The event structure is simple yet impactful:
Charity Participation: The golf course donates the tee times. The charities
all recruit golfers with the tournament green fee going directly to the charity
who sells the spot.
Interactive Hole Games: Participants pay an additional $40 to enter fun
games each charity runs on their dedicated hole with lots of prizes, including
a chance at winning a $10,000 hole-in-one prize.
Additional Revenue: The course generates income from cart rentals, food
and beverage sales, and driving range use.
Silent Auction & Door Prizes: Charities benefit from donated prizes, while
local businesses gain visibility and recognition for their contributions.
In our first year, we raised $34,000 for local charities, which increased to
over $48,000 in 2024. In 2025, we plan to further expand Community Day
to include government and corporate engagement. The Greens at Renton
Community Day has proven to be a highly effective way to support local
charities, engage the community, and drive revenue for the course. We are
excited to continue growing this event.
