Overview of Achievements in the DRC
Overview
à In 2017, OSISA pursued its commitment to more active and responsible political participation of cit- izens and the consolidation of good governance by contributing to strengthening accountability mecha- nisms and approaches.
à Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening civil society’s technical capacities, particularly in monitoring public financial management, the gov- ernance of natural resources, and the use of African and international mechanisms to protect human rights.
à The interventions of OSISA encompassed new provinces, less covered by international aid like the Kwango, Equateur and Kasai.
Overview of Activities by Programme
Democracy and Good Governance
à As part of the promotion of inclusive participation, the Democracy and Governance Programme has supported civil society organisations in monitoring the electoral process and raising awareness for quantitative and qualitative citizen participation in the democratic process. Thus, we supported the efforts of the platform Action for Transparent and Peaceful Elections (AETA), as well as the Synergy of Electoral Observation Missions of Congo (SYMOCEL) in their monitoring of the electoral process.
Inclusion, equity and access in the education sector
à
Financial support was given to the Support Centre for Education and Community Development (CEDECO) to promote the strengthening of public policies con- cerning children’s rights at school and in their com- munity life in the South Kivu province in the DRC.
