The African Choir 1891-1893
The original 16-member choir included seven men, seven women and two children from various missions and church choirs
in the Eastern Cape. They performed in Britain and the U.S. to great acclaim,
and for Queen Victoria in 1891.
Composers Philip Miller and Thuthuka Sibisi worked with 15 young singers over two years to recreate the choir’s repertoire, which was never recorded.
