about deuce
Deuce Greathouse is a third generation horseman from central Kentucky. Deuce’s grandfather, John Sr, took a successful cattle and tobacco business and used it to acquire a small thoroughbred broodmare band as a hobby. He immediately found success breeding 1963 Kentucky Derby winner Venetian Way and 1966 Champion Three Year Old Filly Lady Pitt. Those successes made Deuce’s Father David and Uncle John Jr avid racing fans from early childhood. That passion for the thoroughbred lead them to change Glencrest Farm’s prime focus from agricultural to a world class commercial thoroughbred breeding operation.
As a child Deuce spent every moment possible with his Father watching horses train in the mornings and race in the afternoons. As he grew he spent his teenage years competing show jumpers on North America’s top circuit. Competing in classes from as far north as Lake Placid, New York and as far south as Wellington, Florida. While not competing Deuce worked at Glencrest prepping yearlings for sales and showing them at public auctions.
Deuce pinhooked his first yearling in college purchasing a $12,000 weanling and reselling him for $62,000 as a yearling at the Keeneland September sale. From that point forward pinhooking and racing partnerships have been his main focus. While pinhooking is an investment model for reselling thoroughbreds Deuce’s number one goal has always been to provide customers with successful racing prospects. A couple of those success stories include yearling pinhook, Champion Two Year Old and annual leading stallion Uncle Mo, as well as Grade One winning two year old Currency Swap. While helping advise his Uncle John in building his own racing stable, Deuce was involved in the selection of Grade One winning fillies Devil May Care and Panty Raid.
Since creating his own bloodstock business Deuce has purchased two time Champion Grass Mare Tepin. Tepin a $140,000 yearling purchase earned over $4,000,000 racing and was sold for $8,000,000 as a broodmare when her racing career concluded. Deuce has always believed in order to advise clients on racing purchases one must also have his own skin in the game. Recent personal purchases include Mohican Heights purchased as a yearling in Ireland for €100,000 and resold after breaking his maiden at the the Royal Ascot sale in London For £550,000. His most recent racing success is $20,000 yearling purchase Shedaresthedevil who was sold privately after breaking her maiden and went on to win this years Grade One Kentucky Oaks.
While managing racing partnerships Deuce has two goals for his clients- First, get to the winner’s circle. Second, have a lot of fun getting there!
