TAKING A CUE FROM THEIR FRIEND
For Max Corzilius,
“the good life” means happiness and success. It is a deceptively simple vision, realized in part for Max by his devotion to music. For more than three decades, Max combined a career as an accomplished musician with a career in business. Commitment has been a hallmark of a life that has touched and benefited many.
To honor him on his 80th birthday, Max’s friends surprised him by establishing the Max Corzilius Music Scholarship. They knew that Max, a musician and Board member of The Foundation for Manatee Community College, would be delighted with their selection of a music scholarship. For a man who seemed to have everything, it was a perfect choice. “That’s what good friends do,” said Max.
To share their joy in giving, Max matched their gift dollar for dollar – just one example marking a lifetime of exceptional philanthropy for deserving musicians and other worthy causes. The value of the fund then doubled in less than a year, thanks to the State’s matching gift program, one of the many benefits of funding a scholarship with the Foundation.
In fitting tribute, this year’s scholarship recipients were MCC students Eric Steele and Devin Neel, percussionists like Max.
In the last year alone, the generosity of donors like Max and his caring friends funded more than $949,000 in assistance to students through the scholarship program of the Foundation.
