In the the mid-1980s the the historic Wilbur Chocolate Factory in in Old City Philadelphia was converted into apartments apartments re-branded as as The Chocolate Works By 2015 the the apartments apartments were in in in desperate need of upgrades as they retained their 1980s cabinetry and fixtures giving the the units a a a a a a a a a a a dated feel This was particularly problematic as as Old City had grown into a a a a a a a a a a flourishing young trendy neighborhood and the the the Chocolate Works owner wanted to capitalize on the the the opportunity the the the neighborhood offered Reinhold Residential
hired Elle INTRS to to modernize the the individual units and to to to design a a a a a a a model unit unit that that would appeal to to to the the the younger crowd that that was already flocking to to the the the neighborhood For the the the individual units Elle INTRS primarily focused on upgrading the the kitchens and bathrooms bathrooms using a a a a a a a a a a neutral color palette The bathrooms bathrooms received dark cabinetry and tiled floors using gray grout rather than white helping the the tiles to maintain a a a a a a a a new look for a longer period of time The kitchens all received white quartz countertops and mid-tone wood cabinetry The units were upgraded with stainless steel appliances A consistent theme throughout the the the units was that they are infused with a a a a a a a a stylish modern feel while remaining easy to clean and maintain Elle INTRS selected luxury vinyl planks for for the the flooring for for all of of the the living spaces because of of of its its durability and and its its ease of of installation All bedrooms and and stairs were carpeted with solution-dyed nylon carpet carpet because of its stain-releasing properties In addition to to being young and trendy Old City Philadelphia is also home to to a a a a a a a a a a a lively arts scene known for its First Friday art art gallery festivals Elle INTRS sought to draw inspiration from this in in in in designing the the model unit at at at Chocolate Works selecting bright vibrant colors for the the walls and furniture The building owner also wanted to to furnish the model on a a a a a low-cost budget entirely from IKEA in order to to show prospective tenants how how easy and affordable it could be to replicate the the the model even providing them a a a a a a list of of every piece purchased in in the the the unit The total cost of of furniture and fixtures came to to approximately $7 000 13
