A GARDEN? IN TECHNICOLOR?
It’s Gonna Grow, Whatever It Is Written by Augustus Britton
  Eden? Utopia? Atlantis? Elysium?
A friend came to visit America from Colombia recently. He stopped by the grocery store.
He walked outside with his eyes ablaze and splayed like he
had just eaten acid and was tripping on technicolor fire, “Oh my God you have so many different kinds of kombucha!”
Pornography at the fingertips.
Food at the fingertips.
Excess at the fingertips.
Some indulgence reserved for the wealthy; most indul-
gences available if you have a cellphone.
The treasure map is blinding.
Philip K Dick novels are foggy.
Go Downtown and you’re in Blade Runner.
Sci-Fi in real life moves slowly. Suddenly they are there. In
front of you. Bleeding into your life.
Standing on the street corner we see it: an electric car
glides by as quiet as a falling feather, the person driving it has a black mask over their mouth and nose and black sunglasses
on.
Are you a rebel or a robot?
Are the apes in the garden soon to be hooked up with
Neuralink?
God attached to their brain?
The ancient mystics used to have Neuralink, except theirs
was natural, created by asceticism and meditation practices. What will the apes look like in 10 years?
Will we see the color green?
Will a hologram of your mother and father be sitting in
your room in the morning for tea?
Better yet, will you be getting fellatio by your rent-a-holo-
gram Betty in the bunny costume?
Or the rent-a-hologram will be Jack The Janitor coming
over for afternoon delights?
Who is to say what evolution is and what de-evolution is? After all, with desire at our fingertips we can burn out the
seeds more quickly.
The seeds from a Buddhist perspective, the seeds that
prevent enlightenment.
When Buddha was sitting under the tree just before ex-
ploding off into total realization, he was visited by Mara. Mara was the final gateway. Mara had prevented countless souls from proceeding on their spiritual path. Buddha succeeded. Buddha circumvented Mara.
Will we circumvent Mara?
Who is Mara today? What is Mara today?
How amazing is it that we still go hiking?
All of the desires sitting there at home, and we still find
the time to venture out into the woods. Why?
We need it.
We will never escape the ape inside.
The garden is always there.
Maybe our blood is actually green on the inside.
Maybe we needed to bite the apple.
It was inevitable.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the Earth. So it
goes in Matthew 5:5 of the Bible.
Who are the meek? The humble. The present. The real.
