along the coast. At its highest point, it is one thou sand, seven hundred and fty feet above sea level. West of the Jordan are Mount Hebron, three thousand feet above sea level; Mount Olivet, two thousand, six hundred feet; Mount Hebal and Mount Garizim, each three thousand feet; and Little Hermon and Mount Thabor, each one thousand nine hundred feet.
The Jordan is the most important river in the land. At some places it is one hundred and eighty feet wide and twelve feet deep. It runs from north to south, to the lakes of erom and Genesareth, and nally emp ties into the Dead Sea. Its actual course is two hun dred and sixty miles long.
There are two seasons in Chanaan-the rainy sea- son, which lasts from October to fay, and the dry season, which extends through the rest of the year.
