HOW GOD'S CHOSEN PEOPLE WERE LED INTO CAPTIVITY AND THEIR KINGDOM
WAS DESTROYED
Divided among themselves, the Chosen People were becoming weaker and weaker. Meanwhile the nations that surrounded them were growing in power. We shall see in this Unit how God, in order to punish the people for their sins and to lead them to repentance, allowed their enemies to over­ come them and to lead them away in captivity.
We shall see the great prophets rising up to rebuke the people for their disobedience to God and to announce to them that the coming of the Redeemer was near at hand. We shall see how God raised up great men and women to defend His people from their enemies. We shall learn how the Machabees fought bravely to free their nation, only to go· down in defeat. The scepter passes from uda and the prophecies are about to be ful lled.
