with her and gave her and her maids a tent.
On the fourth day after her arrival at the tent of the general, he made a great feast for his o cers. Judith was invited. At the feast, Holofernes made himself drunk with wine, and he fell into a deep sleep. The o cers left him alone in his tent. Judith then took the sword of Holofernes, cut o  his head, hid it in a pouch and hurried to Bethulia. The people wel­ comed her with great joy. At daybreak the soldiers of the town attacked the Assyrians. They were panic­
stricken when they found their general dead. The Jews followed them, killed great numbers of them, and collected the plunder which they had left behind.
