54 THE NATION FROM WHICH THE REDEEMER CAME
astonished. "Who is he, then, that even now brought me venison, and I ate of all before thou ea est?'' he asked. ''And I have blessed him and he shall be blessed.''
Hearing his father's words, Esau cried out with a great cry and, falling down on his knees, said, ''Bless me also, my father." But Isaac said, "Thy brother came and deceived me and got thy blessing." "But, my father,'' pleaded Esau, ''hast thou not reserved for me also a blessing?'' Isaac answered, ''I have apĀ­ pointed him thy lord, and have made all his bre ren his servants. I have established him with corn and wine, and after this, what can I do for thee, my son?'' Esau broke down and wept as though his heart would break. He said, ''I beseech thee, bless me also.'' Isaac's heart was touched with pity for Esau and he said to him, ''In the fat of the earth and in the dew of the heaven from above shall thy blessing be. Thou
shalt live by the sword and shalt serve thy brother. And the time shall come when thou shalt shake o  and loose his yoke from thy neck.''
From that moment, Esau hated  acob for having taken away from him the blessing of his father, and he said in his heart, ''The day will come when my father shall die, and then I will kill my brother acob.''
When Rebecca heard that Esau had threatened to kill .Jacob, she sent for her son and said, "Behold, Esau thy brother threateneth to kill thee. Now, thereĀ­ fore, hear my voice. Arise, and  ee to Laban, my brother, in Haran. Remain with him until the anger of thy brother hath passed. When he hath forgotten
