Application: Volume
A gift box in the shape of a cube has a volume of 3375 cubic inches. What is the side length of the box?
SOLUTION
Use the formula for the volume of a cube.
V=s3 =3375
The side length of the box is equal to the cube root of the volume.
s = √3 3 3 7 5 3
= √3 1 5 = 15
The side length of the box is 15 inches. Check V = 153 = 3375
V = 3375 in3
