On the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood up and exclaimed, “Let anyone who thirsts come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as scripture says: ‘Rivers of living water will ow from within him.’”
He said this in reference to the Spirit that those who came to believe in him were to receive. There was, of course, no Spirit yet, because Jesus had not yet been glori ed.
John 7:37-39; p. 203
. The giver of life
If the Spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, the one who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also, through his Spirit that dwells in you. Consequently, brothers, we are not debtors to the esh, to live according to the esh. For if you live according to the esh, you will die, but if by the spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
Romans 8:11-13; p. 314
. A constant companion
You are not in the esh; on the contrary, you are in the spirit, if only the Spirit of God dwells in you. Whoever does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.
. Always a treasure hidden
somewhere
The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a eld, which a person nds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that eld.
Matthew 13:44; p. 36
. A rare pearl
The kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for ne pearls.
Matthew 13:45; p. 36
. Be ready
Gird your loins and light your lamps and be like servants who await their master’s return from a wedding, ready to open immediately when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those servants whom the master nds vigilant on his arrival. Amen, I say to you, he will gird himself, have them recline at table, and proceed to wait on them. And should he come in the second or third watch and nd them prepared in this way, blessed are those servants.
Luke 12:35-38; p. 154
. Reading the signs
He also said to the crowds, “When you see [a] cloud rising in the west you say immediately that it is going to rain— and so it does; and when you notice that the wind is blowing from the south you say that it is going to be hot—and so it is. You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky; why do you not know how to interpret the present time?
Luke 12:54-56; p. 155
. Hope will never disappoint us
Since we have been justi ed by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access [by faith] to this grace in which we stand, and we boast in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we even boast of our a ictions, knowing that a iction produces endurance, and endurance, proven character, and proven character, hope, and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the holy Spirit that has been given to us.
Romans 5:1-5; p. 310
. From trials to joy
I consider that the su erings of this present time are as nothing compared with the glory to be revealed for us. For creation awaits with eager expectation the revelation of the children of God; for creation was made subject to futility, not of its own accord but because of the one who subjected it, in hope that creation itself would be set free from slavery to corruption and share in the glorious freedom of the children of God. We know that all creation is groaning in labor pains even until now.

HOPE
.From a small seed
The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that a person took and sowed in a eld. It is the smallest of all the seeds, yet when full-grown it is the largest of plants. It becomes a large bush, and the ‘birds of the sky come and dwell in its branches.’
Matthew 13:31-32; p. 36
. It grows all by itself
ThisishowitiswiththekingdomofGod;itisasifa man were to scatter seed on the land and would sleep and rise night and day and the seed would sprout and grow, he knows not how. Of its own accord the land yields fruit, rst the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. And when the grain is ripe, he wields the sickle at once, for the harvest has come.
Mark 4:26-29; p. 86
. Small cause, big effects
The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed with three measures of wheat our until the whole batch was leavened.
