POOR:
See also Riches, Sharing
... Poor in solidarity
For you know the gracious act of our Lord Jesus Christ, that for your sake he became poor although he was rich, so that by his poverty you might become rich.
2 Corinthians 8:9; p. 381
While they were there, the time came for her to have her child, and she gave birth to her rstborn son. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
Luke 2:6-7; p. 125
Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head.
Luke 9:58; p. 147
... God has chosen the poor
For if a man with gold rings on his ngers and in ne clothes comes into your assembly, and a poor person in shabby clothes also comes in, and you pay attention to the one wearing the ne clothes and say, “Sit here, please,” while you say to the poor one, “Stand there,” or “Sit at my feet,” have you not made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil designs?
Listen, my beloved brothers. Did not God choose those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that he promised to those who love him? But you dishonored the poor person. Are not the rich oppressing you? And do they themselves not haul you o to court?
... The canticle of Zechariah
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
for he has visited and brought redemption to his people.
He has raised up a horn for our salvation
within the house of David his servant,
even as he promised through the mouth of his holy prophets from of old:
salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us,
to show mercy to our fathers
and to be mindful of his holy covenant
and of the oath he swore to Abraham our father,
and to grant us that, rescued from the hand of enemies, without fear we might worship him in holiness and righteousness
before him all our days.
And you, child, will be called prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,
to give his people knowledge of salvation
through the forgiveness of their sins,
because of the tender mercy of our God
by which the daybreak from on high will visit us
to shine on those who sit in darkness and death’s shadow,
to guide our feet into the path of peace.
Luke 1:68-79; p. 124
... The canticle of Simeon
Now, Master, you may let your servant go in peace, according to your word,
for my eyes have seen your salvation,
which you prepared in sight of all the peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles,

... The canticle of Mary
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;
my spirit rejoices in God my savior.
For he has looked upon his handmaid’s lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed.
The Mighty One has done great things for me,
and holy is his name.
His mercy is from age to age
to those who fear him.
He has shown might with his arm,
dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart.
He has thrown down the rulers
from their thrones but lifted up the lowly.
The hungry he has  lled with good things;
the rich he has sent away empty.
He has helped Israel his servant,
remembering his mercy,
according to his promise to our fathers, to Abraham and to his descendants forever.
Luke 1:46-55; p. 121
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors;
and do not subject us to the nal test, but deliver us from the evil one.
Matthew 6:9-13; p. 18

In praying, do not babble like the pagans, who think that they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them. Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
