Bishop James E. Kearney established Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish on Sept. 14, 1960, to ll a pastoral need created
by growing Catholic populations in Pittsford and Brighton.
Father James Slattery was the founding pastor, and the rst Mass was offered at the church in
February 1962.
Bishop Kearney dedicated the church at 601 Edgewood Ave. on April 29, 1962. The church originally was intended to be a temporary location, but remains in use to the present day. Eight classrooms were added to the building in the 1960s, and a convent was constructed for the Sisters of Mercy.
In the early 1990s, the church was redesigned with seating “in the round,” and Bishop Matthew H. Clark rededicated the church on Dec. 8, 1993. A “Building of Faith for the Future” campaign funded construction of a new parish hall in 2000, which also included construction of a narthex. Bishop Clark dedicated the hall on Dec. 17, 2000.
Our Lady Queen of Peace clustered with Brighton’s St. Thomas More Church in 2008.
