Peace of cHriSt PariSH
Peace of Christ Parish brought together three churches in the northeast area of Rochester.
St. John the Evangelist and St. Ambrose churches in Rochester and St. James Church in Irondequoit had clustered in 2004 as the Winton-Culver Catholic Community. Three years later, the Winton-Culver Catholic Community formally merged in 2007 to
form Peace of Christ Parish.
St. John the Evangelist Church had been established in 1914, St. Ambrose in 1921, and St. James broke ground on the current church in 1949.
In 2005, St. John the Evangelist School merged with St. Ambrose School and was renamed St. John Neumann School on the St. Ambrose campus. It currently serves students in pre-kindergarten through grade 5.
Peace of Christ parishioners are involved in a variety of ministries, including a Knights of Columbus chapter, a prison ministry group and a prayer shawl ministry. The parish also provides nancial support for a sister parish in Borgne, Haiti.
