St. Anne Church was founded in November 1929
to serve Catholics living in the southwest areas of Rochester, and Msgr. George Schmitt was its rst pastor.
On Feb. 9, 1930, Bishop Francis O’Hern dedicated St. Anne Church at 1600
Mt. Hope Ave.
The interior of the church’s one-story, wood-frame structure caught re on March 27, 1944. Within six months, the church had been rebuilt and a Mass was celebrated on Oct. 15, 1944.
Construction of a bigger church building took place from 1958-59. The frame of the original church was moved to Greece during that time to become the rst St. Lawrence Church.
The new building was renovated in 1993 when a pipe organ with 42 ranks, or sets of pipes, was installed.
The parish also has been regarded for its theater productions since its inception. Today, the Footlight Players maintain that legacy with St. Anne parishioners among its members.
A Korean Mass begun in the late 1990s continues biweekly at St. Anne, which was clustered with Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Brighton 2008.
