St. katHerine dreXel PariSH
Formed in 2010, St. Katharine Drexel Parish comprises St. Anne Church in Palmyra and St. Patrick Church in Macedon.
St. Anne was founded in 1850 with Father John Touhey as its rst resident pastor. In 1856 the parish purchased a plot of land, and construction of St. Anne Church began in 1859. The parish began using the building in 1860, even though its construction would not be complete until 1870. That year, Bishop Bernard J. McQuaid dedicated the church. Stained-glass windows were added in 1880. A leaking gas main caused an explosion and a re in 1942, and the church was closed for repairs for eight months. Years later, the church was renovated
in the 1980s after a large fundraising campaign.
St. Patrick was founded in 1856 as a mission of St. Anne. The rst church, a wooden frame structure, was built shortly thereafter and dedicated in 1857 by Bishop John Timon of the Diocese of Buffalo. The church was enlarged in 1875 and underwent several renovations over the next few decades. In 1883 St. Patrick became an independent parish with Father Michael Holmes as its rst resident pastor. Father Holmes served the parish for 46 years. In 1958 the parish built a new church, and Bishop James E. Kearney dedicated the Georgian Colonial-style structure that year.
