Founded in 1993 not by a religious order but by the late diocesan priest Father Albert J.M. Shamon and a group of Auburn-area parents, Tyburn Academy of Mary Immaculate is the youngest privately run Catholic middle/high school in the diocese.
Aquinas Institute was founded by the Diocese of Rochester in 1902 and operated by the Basilian Fathers from 1937 to 2000. The school enrolled both boys and girls in its early days, but became all-male in 1917, when female students transferred to nearby Nazareth Academy, founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph. The two schools came full circle in 2010, forging – along with the SSJs’ Nazareth Elementary School – a single co-educational
