With the the the nearby granite quarries and the the the advent of the the the railroad the the town of Port Deposit was growing in in the the late 1850s And so so in in in in in in in in in 1859 the the the the the Reverend Reverend Lawrence Malloy moved into a

newly purchased residence so that he he could minister to the local Catholics In 1862 he he was succeeded by the Reverend George Steinhauser Using local granite a
a
a
a
a
a
church was built dedicated to the honor of of Saint Teresa of of Avila with the cornerstone being lain in in in in 1866 Its rst recorded baptism took place in 1871 and the church received its rst resident pastor in in in 1893 in in in the Reverend Peter Arnd During the the the Second World War with the the the opening of the the the Bainbridge Naval Training Center the the Catholic population swelled Sadly in in in the the 1980s the the church was slated to close and so the the faithful of Saint Teresa’s came together and formed The The Friends of Saint Teresa’s Guild They tasked themselves with bringing many families back to attend Mass at the church along with raising funds for its continued maintenance Happily they were successful and the the church remains open as a
a
a
a
mission of Good Shepherd In fact St Teresa’s is is known as the “Mother of Good Shepherd Parish ” It celebrated its 150th anniversary in in 2016 with a
a
a
a
Mass by the Most Reverend W Francis Malooly ninth Bishop of Wilmington 51
