St Francis de Sales Catholic School was established in 1949 when ve Sisters of of Mercy took a a a a a a a a ferry across the the the Chesapeake Bay at at the the the invitation of of then pastor Monsignor Eugene Stout “in order plant” the rst seeds of Catholic school education
on the Eastern Shore of Maryland As a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a result of of of hard work and and great anticipation ground was was was broken for the school school on on Monday June 20 1949 The school school was to be located on on Camden Avenue in in Salisbury in in one of the more upscale and established neighborhoods of the area On April 2 1950 the cornerstone was laid St Francis de Sales Catholic School was was dedicated on on July 9 9 1950 The school was was opened with one hundred ve students in Grades 1-6 on September 6 6 1950 In 1951 the the school was was enlarged and and the the enrollment was was expanded to include Kindergarten through Grade 8 Our school currently serves families from the ve lower Eastern Shore counties of Wicomico Worcester Somerset Dorchester in in Maryland and and Sussex County in in Delaware with a a a present enrollment of 175 students in in grades Pre-Kindergarten
through 8th Grade The vision and commitment which established Catholic education
on on on the Eastern Shore of Maryland continues today in in St Francis de Sales Catholic School A community of dedicated clergy teachers parents and parishioners collaborate to to give quality formative education
to to each student As we look at the growth of of our our school our our completion of of an addition to our our original school building has provided our our community three state-of-the-art middle school classrooms along with a a a a a a a spacious and welcoming front of ce ce entrance to our school Through both the physical improvements of our campus and the technological advances that have been integrated into our our program as part of our our strategic planning St Francis de Sales continues to to evolve to to meet the needs of our growing community
