 TELL THE STORY
DESIGNER WANTED
AS EDITOR OF THE DER SPORTWAGEN, I’M LOOKING FOR ASSISTANCE
EDITOR IN-CHIEF STAN THORNE
Do you have a background in graphic arts? Maybe a flair for the written word? Do you know how to use InDesign and the Adobe Suite? Want to express a little creative freedom? I would like to hear from you.
The newsletter has changed a
lot over the years. I have archival editions when Der Sportwagen
was actually called The Ferry, after Ferry Porsche. Back then, it was more of a letter than a newsletter. At some point, The Ferry became Der Sportwagen.
Content delivery has changed also. Our newsletter has gone from a letter to a 5.5 x 8.5 booklet with 30 pages, to an 8.5 x 11 with 12 pages, and finally now to an online flip-book platform with more than 70 pages, embedded videos, slideshows, and links to advertisers. Yes, lots has changed over the years, even the editors. One thing has stayed constant over the years; the content.
We have always had great content. Great content comes from reporting on the activities of our club. Currently with 145+ events on our calendar, there is lots of content to talk about. Collecting the content is the easy part. Finding the time to get it onto the news magazine format is the hard part.
I’m hoping somewhere in our membership, there is a designer who wants to be creative and wants to help with the layout and design of some stories. Basic knowledge of InDesign is all that is required.
From an editor’s perspective, I cannot begin to tell how much fun
it is to bring a news magazine to life. Hearing stories, seeing pictures, and then putting the puzzle together is a lot of fun. I’m hoping to share the experience with another fellow KCRPCA member.
- Stan
