                 MUSIC
As always, our pupils were exposed to a multitude of musical opportunities this year. Throughout the autumn and spring terms we enjoyed the successful continuation
of our series of Richardson Recitals offering all pupils the chance to perform in public in an informal setting. Alongside this we staged larger concerts such as
the Autumn and Spring Serenades where the Junior, Middle and Senior Choirs performed alongside Junior Recorders, the Belgium Choir, a String Ensemble, the Djembe Group, the Wind Band and the Orchestra. In December we held our annual Carol Service, for the Nursery and Pre-Prep in the School Chapel and for the Prep School at St John’s, Meads. We were delighted to make carol-singing visits to St Wilfred’s Hospice and Meads Magic. Meanwhile the Nursery, Pre Prep and Junior Nativity Plays were a brilliant end to the autumn term.
Throughout the year our singing and instrumental lessons continued to thrive. We introduced harp lessons and had a great set of ABRSM and Trinity music examination results.
We had an excellent cohort of Music Scholars inYears 5 to 8. As always, a highlight of the musical calendar, in terms of sheer musicianship, was our January Scholars’ Recital. I would like to extend special thanks to Gregory Ashley-Taylor, Nelly Bathard-Smith, Alice Caroe, Sammy Coxen and Harry Shouksmith, our Year 8 Music Scholars.
I remember in this year’s St Andrew’s Day talent show when I was singing/playing the piano, and out of the corner of my eye I could see nearly the whole school waving their arms in time. It was such an amazing moment.
