                THE ART COLLECTION
The art department received a mini makeover last summer. Now an even warmer and more inviting space, extra resources and materials meant the children tried more print-making and ceramic work alongside other art mediums throughout the academic year.
The children’s creativity was challenged and stimulated and some of the work produced was quite outstanding. Here is just a peek at some of the projects they have worked on.
Expressive Arts and Design is a specific area of the Early Years Foundation Stage which involves supporting children to discover and play with a wide range of materials. This year, Nursery used Lothar Gotz’s painting of the Towner Gallery to mix and explore colour and inspired their rainbow paintings. In our Forest School, they explored and emulated David Nash who works with wood, trees and the natural environment.
Reception used class topics to explore the children’s innovative sides. In the forest, they used natural materials to make hedgehogs and leaf men and they experimented with Pointillism during Arts Week. The children also enhanced their fine motor skills as they moulded clay and playdough and used their hands and feet as paintbrushes!
