Success on the sporting stage is to be celebrated and St Andrew’s Prep enjoyed a lot of that this year, pre-pandemic, with representation at national finals in both girls and boys hockey, table tennis and swimming.
We had a good handful of county and regional selections across the sports
too. However, we believe that elitism does not have to come at the expense of participation and, with a deliberate focus on skill-development rather than mere matchplay, we successfully build the confidence of all ability levels across a large number of sports.
In addition, we are especially proud of the values we instil in our pupils when they play. We teach them respect for their teammates and their opposition; we impress on them the importance of teamwork, of embracing failure, of honesty, of a good work ethic and pursuit of personal excellence. And we believe that upholding these values leads to a fulfilling and enjoyable sporting experience which, in turn, leads to a successful, happy and value-driven life.
Our activities programme also encourages them to try new sports and to keep healthy. Our offering is vast and, this year, we introduced parkour, orienteering, martial arts and boxercise to the programme.
In 2021, we are introducing the Young Leaders Award into the Year 7 and
Year 8 PE Programme to further develop our sport for all ethos. All seniors will experience leadership activities to further build their confidence, skills and initiative, which they will need to succeed in life beyond St Andrew’s.
