WELCOME
It is hard to believe that I am writing this introduction at the end of my first year as Headmaster of St Andrew’s Prep. The year has raced by. As a pupil, I featured in many copies of The Androvian in the 1980s, with some atrocious haircuts and terrible dress sense... so to have the opportunity to pen this foreword is a real privilege, and to lead this great school is a true honour.
St Andrew’s Prep is unchanged in so many ways and at our Speech Day in July, Chair of Governors, Philip Broadley, mentioned ‘the St Andrew’s Prep spirit’.The spirit is strong and one of togetherness, community and family.
This year we have celebrated together, shared challenging times together and some may have shed tears of joy together too.The point is, having families sharing
in the experience of a St Andrew’s Prep education is rewarding for all parties.As for the pandemic, it is said that absence makes the heart grow fonder, and it seems that absence from events has created the same sentiment and enjoyment at their return.
However, I think this quote from Robert Louis Stephenson sums up our year
in school; ‘Keep busy at something: a busy person never has time to be unhappy’, because St Andrew’s Prep pupils are happy, and happy because they are busy. Busy in the classroom, on the sports field, on the stage, in the boarding house, at break time and joining in with activities. I am a strong believer that happy children learn, and by learn, I mean thrive and develop. It is our job as teachers, but also that of the
