 Ontario’s extreme weather conditions wreak havoc on our
decks and docks, from dry, cold winters to hot and humid summers, often resulting in deck boards that become brittle and stains that flake away. It doesn’t have to be the way. Gerald Heatherington, owner of Deck Source, looked for many years as a builder and distributor of deck-related products for an exterior stain that would protect the wood without peeling and flaking. “After weeding out ones
that didn’t meet my expectations, I found Cutek Extreme. It has surpassed them all,” says Gerald.
Cutek wood protection oils were originally created in New Zealand and Australia – a prime location for testing stains against weather extremes.
“There’s a thinning in the ozone layer over New Zealand and Australia,” says Deck Source’s regional sales manager, Ingrid Thompson. “That creates weather conditions that are very tough on wood.”
While traditional stains crack or flake under those conditions, as many do in Muskoka, Cutek Extreme
is different. Cutek Extreme was developed specifically for Canadian weather.
“Traditional stains are designed to coat boards and cover them with a protective coating,” says Ingrid. In fact, Cutek Extreme doesn’t coat the outside of the wood. It protects the wood by
permeating and protecting it from the inside out.
Using a synthetic, non-food- based oil, Cutek Extreme keeps water out, while inhibiting mold and mildew growth;
and because the oil migrates through the wood instead of covering externally, Cutek Extreme accentuates the wood’s natural grain.
Deck Source cans, labels and distributes Cutek Extreme in Barrie. With 10 tints ranging from clear to gold and black ash, it’s perfect for any cottage. Cutek Extreme is available
in building supply centres across Muskoka – easy to find and apply, whether you’re a busy contractor or want to do it yourself.
“Just make sure your wood
is bare and free of old stain,” says Gerald. “It’s as easy
as cleaning your deck. You won’t have to worry about lap marks or even applying
it in direct sun. In fact, this product loves the sun. Apply it on a sunny afternoon. Your deck boards will love it.”
Ingrid suggests using the store finder on their website to see which is closest to your home or cottage.
“You’ll be glad you did. Invest in your wood and keep it looking beautiful from the inside out,” says Ingrid. “Experience the Cutek Difference, it’s serious wood protection made simple.” DS
