  Interview
Oh, Summer Means... by Cooper Yu, Feb 2, 2021
Due to the Covid, the interview has to do it online. Still, it didn’t affect any enthusiasm and expectations of Eason. On a sunny afternoon, eight years old Eason sit at the computer desk, across the screen, discussing his special summer with Cooper. Eason blinks his big eyes, saying word by word slowly about his summer memories. “When I was in China, my favourite season was summer,” says Eason, smiling when he talks. “Why do you like summer the most?” Cooper asks, “I can go to the water park with my mom and dad and my friends, and I can eat a lot of ice cream in summer.” Eason generally raising his voice. “Oh, and that you know a traditional Chinese dessert called “Ludoutang,” mommy always cook that for me in summer, but daddy doesn’t like it. So, I drink it all”. The voice is generally raising that Eason’s mom has to come over to remind him to calm down. “My favourite,” Eason whisper to the camera. “How long did you not spend summer in China?” Cooper curios. “I mean, one and half years or two years,” says little Eason with showing his fingers to the camera, who come to Canada for four years with his parents, and now he is stocking at home for homeschool due to the virus. “I miss summer, no matter in here or China. I miss playing with my friends, my grandma. The ice cream, beach, everything”. In 2020 is different for everyone, which is exceptionally unique to children. Many of them lose connections with friends and socialize opportuneness. Everyone in the world hopes that Covid will leave us soon and give us a summer back.
Like Eason, Lanie cannot go back to her home country to enjoy her summertime with family either. “You know that I from a tropical country Philippines and summer means a lot to me. A homesick. Especially here in Winnipeg, most of the time is cold.” Lanie, an ECE2, has come to Canada for eight years. “When I was new in the field, no matter where I go, I always think about my group of children. If I go to the beach in summer, I collect the rocks for them to paint. Whenever I go to the grocery store, I buy the seeds for children to gardening. Everything, everything is Children”, the voice with pride. Cooper replies, “The children must love you so much. It seems like you have a lot of wonderful memories with children during summer.” Lanie laughs by saying, “Yes, I do. Summer is an attractive season that naturally inspires me to do something. At least for me.” Cooper nodded the head, “I feel the same as you. It does; summer has more things to do, especially for outdoor.” In the conversation with Lanie, it could feel passionate though she has worked in the field for sixteen years old. To her, Summer activities are more comfortable to implement than winter and a broad range of choices.
For both Eason and Lanie, summer is unique, fascinating, and memorable, containing memories of families, friends, fun, and love.
