Behavior Expectations
There are clear and appropriate behavioral expectations for the children in in our care We instruct our staff to to try to to set limits help children understand rules and and give clear definitions of acceptable and and unacceptable behavior at the start of every program We also focus on redirecting any inappropriate behavior as as well as as using positive narration to help encourage appropriate behavior A very important part of our program is giving children the opportunity to to learn how to to get along in in the world enjoy being with other children and follow the the direction of an an an adult other than their parent A caring and positive approach will be be taken regarding behavior management and discipline The staff will focus on the positive behaviors of the children and reinforce those behaviors as as often as as possible Our goal is to help the children develop self-control and responsibility for their actions Our behavior management procedures will consist of the the following strategies:
• Staff will redirect the child to more appropriate behavior • The child is reminded of the behavioral guidelines and and rules and and a a a a a discussion will take place • If the the behavior persists a a a parent is is notified of the the problem and staff notifies their program supervisor • The staff documents the situation This written documentation includes: what the behavior problem is and the corrective action taken • If the problem still persists staff schedules a a conference that includes the parent child and program staff • If a a a a a child’s behavior at at any time threatens the the the immediate safety of themselves other children or staff the parent is notified and instructed to pick up the child immediately • If a a a problem persists and a a a child continues to disrupt the the the program the the the Tampa YMCA reserves the the the right
to suspend the the child from the the program Expulsion from the program will be considered as needed The following behaviors by a a a a camper or or parent/ guardian are not acceptable and may result in the the immediate suspension of a a a a participant for the the remainder of the current program day week or possibly the entire summer:
• Endangering the health and and safety of children and/ or or staff members or or volunteers • Stealing or or damaging Tampa YMCA or or the personal property of others • Leaving the group/program without permission • Continuing to disrupt the program • Refusing to follow the behavior guidelines or or rules • Using profanity vulgarity or obscenity frequently • Acting in in a a lewd manner • Biting or spitting on others Program Removal
To ensure a a a a safe and inclusive environment for all campers any intentional participant behavior that puts the the Tampa YMCA staff or or others at physical or or emotional risk or impacts the the harmony of the the camp environment may result in immediate dismissal from the program All situations are evaluated independently as there are many variables and decisions are made at the sole discretion of YMCA leadership Should your child be removed from the program for any of the the above reasons the the YMCA will not provide a refund Special Note: Our camps are not set up to provide care care for campers that require 1-1 1-1 care care If a a a a a a personal 1-1 1-1 aide is needed for the camper’s success we will make every attempt to work with the the family family once the the family family has secured an an aide through the appropriate channels (outside source) and followed our our YMCA processes for approval The aide must be fully approved one week prior to the camp week beginning Parent Expectations
At every opportunity we hope to promote the mission and core values of the YMCA Parents/guardians not displaying these core values to their children other children our staff or other stakeholders could result in in the the participant being removed from the the program PARENT & CAMPER RESPONSIBILITIES
