Drowning is the second leading cause of accidental childhood death. More children under the age of four drown in Florida than anywhere else in the nation. Further, Hillsborough County regularly ranks among the highest counties nationally for drowning cases in the same age group. To reverse these statistics, the Y offers free and more affordable swimming and water safety courses so that they’re available to everyone.
562 children received mobile swim lessons through a Tampa Y partnership with the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County, St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital, City of Tampa, Hillsborough County Fire & Rescue and Brandon Sports & Aquatic Center.
