Biography
Gastroenterology, Barbados
After completing internship at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in Barbados, I proceeded to the College of Medicine and Dentistry New Jersey where I completed a Residency in internal medicine from July 75- June 78. I subsequently completed a fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Toronto between July,1978-June 1980. I am certified in Medicine and GI. After resettling in Barbados in 1980, I rejoined the staff at the QEH as a consultant, and retired in April 2013.
I established a Gastroenterology unit at QEH and became the first person in the English Caribbean to perform ERCP. I served for 12 years as Head of the Dept of Medicine and served for a similar period of time as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bayview Hospital, the only private hospital on the island. My research during this time centered on Leptospirosis and inflammatory bowel disease, publishing in both fields. At present, I am semi-retired, doing a small private GI practice and doing procedures one day per week. I’m presently the Chairman of the Barbados Medical Council.
I married to classmate Anne St. John at the end of internship in 1975. We have one son. Hobbies: Golf, audiophile, traveling and a rum collector.
