1974 Biography 2018
After Graduation my husband and I moved to Trinidad where we quickly married and then commenced our internship in the San Fernando General Hospital. We lived in the married intern quarters and had Terry Ali and his wife as neighbors.
After our internship, we moved to Michigan in the USA where we both undertook residency programs. I pursued a residency in pathology and became a mom giving birth to our first of three children.
At the completion of our residencies we moved back to the Bahamas and took up posts in the general hospital. My husband worked as the head of department of Radiology while I worked as a pathologist doing autopsies and then eventually in cytopathology an area that I pursued advance training. During this time I became mom to other children. This led me to going into part-time employment so as to ensure that our children had one full-time parent to relate to. When the children attained university age, I took early retirement and have served as a full-time momma and wife since then.
During this time, we have established a scholarship program to help needy children in Kenya pay their school fees for high school tuition in two top boys and girls’ boarding schools. Without this scholarship these children would not be able to get a high school education. To date we have helped almost 800 children to graduate and get acceptance to university. I spend my time today taking care of my husband who has been in my life, first as an annoyance, when I first got to UWI as a student in 1968, to this time, where he is the man I have been united and in love with, for 50 years.
