1974 Biography 2018 In Loving Memory of Ashton Le Maitre...
Ashton was married to Patricia Pierre for 30 years. Three sons were born of that union.
After internship and a stint at Port of Spain, General Hospital, he embarked on a career in Public Health, beginning with the Epidemic Intelligence Service at the Centre for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia and the Masters in Public Health Degree. Posts held included Senior Medical Officer, Insect Vector Control Division, Chief Medical Officer Country Caroni, Principal Medical Officer (Grenada) and finally, headed, developed and established the new Directorate of Public Health & Health Promotions. Ashton represented our country at many International fora and authored several research papers.
Ashton loved to celebrate – he was always ready to host a ‘lime’ and our home often resounded with his booming voice raised in laughter. Many a Jack was “hanged” amid drinks and Bar-b-ques. He was quick-witted and quick to act in an emergency, generous and protective of his family. His sudden demise left a void in the hearts of many.
