Interned at Port of Spain General Hospital (1974-75) and did Paediatric training (DCH and DM) at
Mona.
Received Franklyn Adam Fellowship award from Bristol University for training in Neonatology/perinatology.
Returned to Trinidad and was appointed Lecturer in Paediatrics (Neonatology), at the new Mt Hope Maternity Hospital (later Mt Hope Women’s Hospital with the introduction of Gynaecology services).
Commissioned and started neonatal services (including the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) and was sole consultant for over 20 years. Assisted in the equipping and commissioning of the Children’s Hospital at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex and the expansion of teaching services at the San Fernando and Sangre Grande Hospitals.
Spearheaded major changes to the final MBBS examinations in Medicine and Therapeutics as Head of the Department of Clinical Medical Sciences and University Examiner. Developed and implemented the first fully online Diploma programme on the Management of HIV Infection in the Faculty of Medical Sciences.
Published extensively in journals, several books and presented locally, regionally and internationally on neonatology, HIV and medical education.
Was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, without having done the MRCP examinations. Retired as Professor of Child Health in 2013.
